What’s Cooking @ HEPL: Ep 06

By: Heidi Herald

Joshua Weissman: an unapologetic cookbook

Welcome back to the What’s Cooking @ HEPL blog! I am Heidi Herald, a Public Services Librarian at Hamilton East Public Library. I will be reviewing one of the library’s cookbooks each month. This month, I tried some recipes from Joshua Weissman’s cookbook, an unapologetic cookbook. Many people know Joshua Weissman from his popular YouTube cooking videos. I decided to review his cookbook when the library received an advanced readers’ copy.

The recipes in the cookbook are quite varied. There are amazingly simple recipes such as salted butter & jam toast as well as much more complex recipes. Most of the recipes look like they could easily become favorites!

If you don’t have a sourdough starter, he provides detailed instructions on making one, as well as a recipe for sourdough bread from the starter.

In addition to the sourdough, the cookbook also has a lot of basic recipes that would be fun to try for cheeses and sauces.

Next, I tried potato gnocchi with pesto. This was a fun and easy dish. It was my first time making homemade pasta, and I will make this again.

Finally, in the video below I make Chicken Katsu with a spicy cabbage slaw and katsu sauce!

I hope you will borrow Joshua Weissman: an unapologetic cookbook from our library collections! It is available in print and as an eBook through Libby/OverDrive.

Happy Eating!
