Summer Reading Read-a-louds for Kids
By: Christina Shields
Our 2019 Summer Reading Program started June 1st, with an outer space theme! Have you signed up yet? If not, you still have plenty of time as this program does not end until July 31st. Beat the summer slump and sign up via Beanstack to log the minutes and books you have read for prizes and other incentives (besides the many benefits of reading). Our Beanstack site also includes book and activity logging, badges and registration for all members of the family under one account. Registration only needs to be done one time to participate in library reading programs and activities for all ages, all year round.
Both of our libraries (Fishers and Noblesville) will also be offering special outer space themed events to celebrate the 50thanniversary of the moon landing. Some of our special events for children will include a visit from “Professor Steve” (July 15th), “Silly Safaris” (July 18th), and a “Musical Conexion Bilingual Family Concert” (July 30th) at both libraries. More details and many more programs can be found on our website hamiltoneastpl.org and under our calendar of events or in our new Discover brochures which can be picked up at either library.
Summer reading participants can count any books (minutes spent reading for children) they read between June 1st– July 31st. Checkout some of these fun read-a-louds for younger children at our library:
Fly Guy Presents: Space by Tedd Arnold
Mousetronaut by Astronaut Mark Kelly
Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth by Oliver Jeffers
Hey-Ho to Mars We’ll Go! by Susan Lendroth
Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed
A Big Mooncake for Little Star by Grace Lin
Happy reading and we hope to see you this summer!
