Strange the Dreamer
By: Laini Taylor
I love Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. When I heard she was coming out with a new book, I put it on hold immediately! The story of Strange the Dreamer is not directly connected to Taylor’s first series, but definitely has a similar vibe. Lazlo Strange is an orphan raised by monks since birth. He loves stories of all kinds—of warriors, folklore, mythology. He craves knowledge and dreams of a better reality. When he gets the chance to be a librarian surrounded by more stories than he could ever read, he takes it. Stories of one fabled city obsess him. When he was 5 years old, the city lost its name and became known as Weep with no person in the entire world able to recall the former name. One unbelievable day, a large group of warriors from Weep come to his city. To the astonishment of all, they were in search of scientists, technicians, alchemists, or anyone with knowledge their city didn’t have to solve a huge problem they were facing. Lazlo finds a way to join this group and go on an adventure of a lifetime to the city he has always dreamed of seeing.
