Mad Men, The Final Season, Part 2 (DVD)

Mad MenMad Men, The Final Season, Part 2 (DVD)

We live in the golden age of television.  There are simply so many good television shows being created that it’s difficult to pick which ones are most deserving of our time.  I’ll admit to being a fan of shows ranging from Bloodline and Homeland to The Sopranos and House of Cards.   Amazon Prime’s latest The Man in the High Castle left me watching TV longer than I care to admit.  However, for all of the shows previously mentioned, Mad Men is the one show that has continued to capture my attention for all seven seasons.

If you’re not familiar with the story line, Mad Men is a show about the golden era of advertising firms on Madison Avenue in New York City during the 1960’s.  What I love most about the show is how it accurately portrays how Americans adapted and changed during those defining years.  Its attention to historical accuracy is stunning, and it elevated the careers of previously unknown actors and actresses, mainly Jon Hamm (Don Draper) and Elisabeth Moss (Peggy Olson).  The show portrays the power many of these executives wielded with their creative ad campaigns to fuel our consumer culture.  Don Draper’s character is intriguing and appalling at the same time which makes this show all the more captivating.

I’m guessing many of you have heard how the show ended.  I’ll admit there were a few areas that were surprising (and mildly disappointing), but the overall ending was perfect and true to the characters.  Once most shows are over I’m typically relieved they won’t be such a time drain and I can go back to business as usual.  This is a show that never felt like it stuck around too long.  The Final Season Part 2 is available for checkout at HEPL as are all of the previous seasons.  Finish the show if you’ve left off midway through the series; if you haven’t started, you’ll find quickly that this show is the prime definition of a binge watch.
