May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander month, a great way to celebrate the heritage of many people in our community and learn more about different cultures. This year, the Hamilton East Public Library will be hosting an international film festival at the Fishers branch. Every Saturday for three weeks, we will be screening a different film from an Asian country.
April 26: The Man Who Sold His Skin
An Arab-language, Oscar-nominated film that follows a Syrian refugee who is eager to be reunited with his lover who fled to Brussels. In a desperate attempt for money and immigration paperwork, he agrees to have his back tattooed with a Schengen visa by a famous, controversial artist. This film explores themes of art, immigration, and borders.
A Chinese comedic anthology that showcases five stories taking place in different parts of rural China. This film explores themes of community and tradition.
A Hindi-language film that follows an Indian woman who travels to New York and enrolls in an English class. Viewers will watch as she goes on this journey and meets others who are also learning English and navigating a new country.
We hope you will come celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month with us at the library! Registration for these film screenings is required, and attendees must be aged 18 or older. Click on the date and title of the movie above to go to our events page and register!
