Indiana Fiction

The Indiana Room at the Noblesville Library is most often thought of as providing local history and genealogy resources. However, the Indiana Room also contains a collection of fiction books by Hamilton County and Indiana authors, some old and some new.
Milford Anness was a lawyer, politician, historian, judge and legislator, lifelong Hoosier and writer. He wrote several books of nonfiction, but in the Indiana Room, we have two of his fiction works, Song of Metamoris: a story that remains of a people who passed this way, published in 1964, and Forever the song, published in 1967. Song of Metamoris tells the story of Metamoris, a Delaware chieftain who follows Tecumseh to resist the spread of white settlers. Forever the song continues that story.
Nancy Niblack Baxter is the author of eight books on Indiana and Civil War history, including the Heartland Chronicle Series. According to the Indiana Writers Center, The Movers was the Waldenbooks Preferred Reader selection for Atlantic states 1987 and Lords of the Rivers was the National Association of Presswomen Best Novel of the Year 1990. She is now Senior Editor of Hawthorne Publishing in Carmel. The Heartland Chronicles series includes the Movers: a saga of the Scotch-Irish, Lords of the rivers, The dream divided (a story of the Civil War) and All bright sons of morning and Charmed Circle – Indianapolis in 1895.
Maurice Broaddus writes short stories and novels for young people and adults. He works as a community advocate in Indianapolis, and has taught many classes at the Indiana Writers Center. His fantasy book series of King Maker, King’s War and King’s Justice, take place in Indianapolis where the drug wars will create a King Arthur type leader, who will urge them to do the right thing.
