Hispanic Heritage Month

hispanic heritage month

By Amy W., Public Services Librarian

National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed September 15 – October 15. Why is that? Many Latin American countries celebrate the anniversary of their independence during this time, including: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua (September 15), Mexico (September 16), and Chile (September 18).

Each year, we use this time to highlight and “celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America” (US Census Bureau). If you’re looking for suggestions for how to celebrate, we’re here to help!
