Finding the Perfect Book!
By: Heidi Herald
Are you ever in the mood to read something dark and gloomy and set in Scotland; or maybe, a romance that takes place on a Caribbean island? No matter what you are in the mood for, you have access to our Novelist database that allows you to hunt for the perfect book! Mostly used by librarians to find just the right read for our patrons, you also can access this from home (with library card number and pin) or in the library. It is located on the Hamilton East Public Library website under Resources – Print Media. You can first search for keywords (or authors, titles, genre, etc.) and then further designate what you are looking for based on the limiters on the left side of the screen:
NoveList Plus is also great for read-alikes! You can look up your favorite book and find similar titles, or try looking up your favorite author to find similar authors that may appeal to you. Notice in the screen shot above that below each title there are links for Title Read-alikes, Author Read-alikes, and Series Read-alikes. This is a great way to find additional titles and authors that you may enjoy!
We also offer this online readers’ advisory database for young readers with NoveList K-8 Plus—also available via our website.
Not everyone has the time to spend researching their reading and there is nothing most librarians like more than readers’ advisory! We offer a service called My Next Book via the website where you can fill out an online form and we will provide detailed suggestions based on the information you give us. Remember, the more you can tell us, the better suggestions we can make!
And, of course, we are available in person at the library, to make suggestions and help you find your next great read!
