A Girl Named Zippy
By: Haven Kimmel
So funny and entertaining that I read it in one weekend! Haven Kimmel was born in Mooreland, Indiana, a very small town where they claim the population has been exactly 300 people for decades. Her parents called her Zippy after seeing a bike riding chimp on TV who zipped all over the studio. Her life is far from perfect with her father who is an alcoholic and her mother who struggles with depression but they love Zippy and she loves them. Mooreland is filled with quirky characters and Zippy’s comical observations and sharp wit make this a thoroughly entertaining, quick read.
I would also recommend the sequel, She Got Up Off the Couch.
