Welcome back to What’s Cooking @ HEPL! I am Heidi Herald, a Public Services Librarian at Hamilton East Public Library. I will be reviewing one of the library’s cookbooks each month. This month, I selected My Korea by Hooni Kim with Aki Kamozawa. This was my first time cooking Korean cuisine. I am thankful to my Korean friends from the English as a New Language conversation classes at the library. They answered some questions for me, and even brought me an ingredient back from Chicago. Thank you!
The omelet fried rice was delicious. This used dry cooked rice, which made the dish even tastier. You cook the rice ahead of time, freeze, and separate it before cooking.
The scallion pancakes with pajeon sauce were delicious. I served them with a side of spinach with sesame.
Here’s a close-up of the spinach with sesame, served cold. It was delicious and spicy!
Finally, in the video below I make Noodles in Black Bean Sauce. I substituted Udon noodles for traditional Korean noodles due to availability.
I hope you will borrow My Korea by Hooni Kim with Aki Kamozawa from our library collections! It is available in print. Happy Eating!
