What’s Cooking @ HEPL: Ep 03

Welcome back to the What’s Cooking @ HEPL blog! I am Heidi Herald, a Public Services Librarian at Hamilton East Public Library. I will be reviewing one of the library’s cookbooks each month. In this third installment, we will look at the wonderful cookbook, Art of the Pie, by Kate McDermott.

I first borrowed this book from the library when it was published in 2016. Soon after that, I knew it would get a lot of use, so I purchased it. I have made many pies from this cookbook over the years, and my personal copy is a little threadbare. Pies are the perfect way to express thanks, gratitude, condolences, or joy. I have used this cookbook to bake pies which I have shared with friends, family, and neighbors. This cookbook offers an expert technique for making pies, and while I have only made the fruit pies, it includes a section on meat pies if you would like something savory

I love peach pie in the summer. Here is one I made using the recipe, My Favorite Peach Pie.

Pie-Baking Marathon

Sometimes, I like to have a pie-baking marathon. In the picture above, I made three peach pies and a blueberry pie with recipes from this cookbook. I have also made sour cherry pie using McDermott’s recipe, which is one of my favorites because I have a sour cherry tree in my yard!
