Take Your Child to the Library Day 2026

Take Your Child to the Library Day, Saturday, February 7

On Saturday, February 7, the Hamilton East Public Library will join other libraries across the country in celebrating National Take Your Child to the Library Day! As essential connectors in their communities, this day encourages parents and caregivers to visit their local library and check out all they have to offer!

At our Fishers branch, families can start their day with a special edition of Tot Tunes, a music and movement program for children ages 2-5 and their caregivers.

At our Noblesville branch another special Saturday edition of Tot Tunes will be hosted in the afternoon at 2pm. From 11am-12pm, our furry friends from Love on Leash will be available in Noblesville to lend a listening paw for children who want to practice their read aloud skills.

Both locations will offer giveaways, a communal art project, and a children’s book character scavenger hunt! Complete the scavenger hunt to receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a book bundle! Book bundles will be available to win for children, teens, and adults, so all ages can get in on the scavenger hunt fun!

Taking your child to the library is a fun way to explore all your library has to offer! Did you know that the library holds much more than just books? One of our growing collections is our Library of Things.

This collection has several outdoor yard games available for check out, for when the weather gets warm. You can enjoy fun activities such as croquet, disc golf, or even Giant Monopoly! The Library of Things is more than just yard games, though. We also have a telescope, a digital camera, a ghost hunting kit, and more!

If it’s too cold to be outdoors, you can also enjoy some fun indoor experiences by spending the day at a local museum. You can get access to museums of all sizes—from the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis to the Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel. You can also borrow a backpack which gets you into any Indiana State Park!

We are also expanding our educational kits in Youth Services to include some technology kits. Among the most popular are the Tonie boxes, where interchangeable toy figures read stories to you. There are also kits for learning computer programming and logic.

If you haven’t visited one of our buildings in a while, we invite you back to explore all your local library has to offer!
