Small Projects Renovation Updates: Fishers Library

We are thrilled to share that the transformation of the Fishers Library is moving into its final, most exciting phases of our small renovation projects. Our goal has always been to create a space that is as functional as it is inspiring, and these final phases are key to welcoming you back fully this summer.

New Spaces for Young Learners

Work on the Youth Services program rooms is nearing completion. By expanding these rooms, we are bringing our beloved youth programs back into their dedicated home. This space has been specially designed to meet the evolving needs of our youngest patrons, including a brand-new, attached outdoor area for fresh-air learning and play.

Enhancing the Youth Experience

The next phase of our project focuses on imagination and exploration. We are installing an updated play area and creating new, child-friendly seating throughout the Youth Services department.

To create a more open, accessible, and safe environment for active play, we will be removing the tree trunks currently located in the center of the department. This change allows us to maximize the floor space for new interactive features and ensures the area is easier for all families to navigate.

During this phase, Youth Services will remain open. We will use temporary walls to keep construction out of sight and mind. While we enhance the main entrance to the department, we ask that you enter Youth Services via the meeting room hallway beginning on April 29. Please follow the posted signage—our staff is ready to help you find your way!

Refreshing Our Gathering Spots

If you’ve visited recently, you may have noticed the new flooring in our meeting rooms, which replaced aged and damaged carpeting. We are continuing to refresh the library with new furniture in our meeting rooms, study areas, and public lounges to ensure your visit is both comfortable and productive.

Prioritizing Safety and Accessibility

Outside, we are beginning essential work to address long-standing drainage issues. As part of this safety initiative, we will also be removing the art tiles near the entrance.

We know these tiles were a unique feature of the building’s exterior. Over the years, the library has exhausted multiple methods to make them slip-resistant during Indiana’s rain and snow, but unfortunately, those efforts have not met the safety standards our patrons deserve. Replacing these tiles is a necessary step to ensure that everyone can enter the library safely, regardless of the weather.

Looking Toward Summer

We anticipate that construction will be largely complete before the Summer Reading Program kicks off. We are incredibly grateful for your patience during this “dusty” phase of our growth, and we cannot wait to welcome you into these refreshed spaces.
