Life As We Knew It
By: Susan Beth Pfeffer
Life As We Knew It is the first book in a science fiction trilogy for teens. In the beginning of the book, an asteroid hits the moon and pushes it closer to the Earth. This wreaks havoc on Earth. The increased gravitational pull causes tsunamis that wipe out cities. There are major earthquakes. Volcanic eruptions create so much ash that sunlight is blocked and the Earth is plunged into a frigid darkness. This book follows teenage Miranda and her family as they struggle to survive in this new reality. Food becomes scarce; travel is impossible. You won’t be able to put this book down as you race through chapter after chapter to see how this family copes with the challenge to stay alive. If you love reading dystopian teen fiction, you should definitely check out Life As We Knew It.
