This is a futuristic take on Cinderella that recasts the heroine as a skilled mechanic, “one who studies rocket-ship repair late into the night.” The story is written in playful rhymes. Interstellar Cinderella is very independent. Instead of her having a fairy god mother she has her own fairy godrobot. It’s up to Cinderella to fix the ship that she pilots to the Royal Space Parade instead of a Royal Dance. Cinderella also ends up rescuing the prince by repairing his ship and when he asks her to be his bride, “She thought this over carefully./ Her family watched in panic./ ‘I’m far too young for marriage,/ but I’ll be your chief mechanic!’ ”

Written for ages 3–5 this picture book is a fantastic twist to the classic fairy tale. This picture book has fun, spaced-out rhymes and space-age illustrations which are stunning. They featuring brush and ink with a digital twist. I totally enjoyed reading Interstellar Cinderella because of the strong independent female character.
