Vote for the Indiana Firefly Award!
By: Allison Kartman
The Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award is an initiative of the Indiana Center for the Book. The award is administered by the Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Committee. The Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Committee is made up of professionals in Indiana, including teachers, librarians, caregivers, and project coordinators; all of whom are involved in early childhood development.
Picture books serve an important role in the first years of the life of a child. The purpose of this award is to encourage parents, caregivers, and very young children to interact together with exceptional picture books. Each year, Children ages 0-5 are encouraged to vote for one of five nominated titles.
B is for Baby by Atinuke and illustrated by Angela Brooksbank
Don’t Blink by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by David Roberts
Firefly Home by Jane Clark and illustrated by Britta Teckentrup
Pirate Jack Gets Dressed by Nancy Raines Day and Allison Black
The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld
Due to the current public health situation, this year’s deadline will be extended to June 30, 2020. When watching the videos, feel free to pause them and ask your children questions about the book. Interact together, then decide which book seems to be your child’s favorite.
Vote here for your child’s favorite nominee!
