Ready to book?
Field Tips are scheduled on Thursday mornings only. Groups should plan for up to a two-hour visit. If visiting just one department, groups should plan for an hour visit. Field trips for Elementary students start at 9:30am and 10:30am for Intermediate-High School classes. Trips must be booked at least 3 weeks in advance. This service is only open to schools and homeschool groups and co-ops. A library representative will reach out for additional details before your field trip is confirmed.

Digital Bling
Students will play with the basic principles of electric circuits as they create a wearable piece of digital art. Experiment with scientific concepts as you see how electricity flows through a circuit and walk away wearing a fabulous piece of fashion.

Battling Beetles
Design your own paper beetle to race classmates up lengths of string. Learn about the principles of tension and friction as you compete to get your bug to the top by alternately pulling on parallel strands of twine. Combine math, science, engineering, and art in this fun activity.
Recycled Weaving
Learn about the long history of fiber arts from Ancient Egypt to contemporary looms, then use recycled materials to make a weaving of your own. Combine history and art to make your own textile!

Community Paper Quilling
Paper quilling has been popular since the 15th century. Students will use strips of paper to create “quills” as a team. When arranged together, the quills will make an artistic design. This project explores team skills as students work together on smaller parts for a larger whole.
Printmaking
Explore a range of printmaking opportunities for teens at Ignite Studio. Students will explore mono-printing, relief cut printing, and even silk screen printing, as they learn about an art form and technology that dates back to the 2nd century.

Homeschool
Homeschool groups and co-ops are also invited to participate in our field trips service if they meet the minimum threshold for participants (15 students). Due to the unique makeup of homeschool groups, a library representative will reach out after a date has been booked to help create a more personalized experience for your group.
Field Trip FAQ
How many students can we bring?
HEPL field trips can accommodate up to 80 students. Groups will be divided in half for the duration of the field trip, so please be prepared to do so upon arrival. Groups must have at least 15 students to qualify for a booking.
How many chaperones should we bring?
How long are field trips?
Field trips are offered on Thursday mornings from 9:30-11:30 AM for Elementary students or from 10:30 AM-12:30 PM for Intermediate – High School groups. Visits can last up to two hours but may conclude earlier. Groups should have transportation on standby. Start times are flexible within 15 minutes. Groups should anticipate arriving at the library 15 minutes before their field trip start time and will depart around 15 minutes after the field trip ends. Groups in grades pre-K – 2 will spend both hours in the Youth Services department, while groups in grades 3 and up will spend one hour in the Youth Services department and one hour in Ignite Studio.

How do I book a field trip?
Book your date here. After selecting your date, our field trip coordinator will contact you for more information and to confirm your booking. You must book your field trip no later than 3 weeks in advance.
What will we do during our field trip?
Students from grades pre-K and up will explore our youth services department, participate in a literacy focused activity of your choosing, and get a behind-the-scenes tour of the library.
Students in grades 3 and up will also participate in a hands-on maker activity of your choosing in our Ignite Studio.

The Fishers Library is located at 5 Municipal Drive, Fishers, IN 46060. We are directly across from the Fishers Police Station and the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater.
