As you research your Indiana ancestor, you may want to know more about the county in which he/she resided. We don’t have all the Indiana county histories but we do have access to a subscription database called Archives Unbound. This database gives us access to several digitized Indiana county histories and atlases. You will find about 262 titles.
County histories include Jay, Henry, Floyd, Fountain, Wayne, Carroll, Marion, Lake, Laporte, Vigo, and Hamilton counties to name just a few. There are many more counties and even city histories to explore in this database.
The search engine is fairly simple to use. I entered in the surname McComas and got nine hits.
When I clicked on the Fountain County History result, I found there were three pages which had the McComas surname.
The pages are listed on the left side of the screen and each number is linked to the page of interest. You may print the documented page. Or you may download the page onto your flash drive or computer. You even have the option of sending a link to it in an email.
If you get too many results, there is an advanced search engine which offers the options of filtering your search.
This database may also be accessed from home if you have one of our cards and an Internet connection.
I think this genealogy/history database is wonderful if you are researching Indiana ancestors, locations, or events. It may take some time to use the search engine. However, when you get results that you can use, you will feel it was well worth your time. Hope you will enjoy this database. If you need some help in using it, please check with our Indiana Room staff for assistance. Enjoy!
