Reflected Moments: Ignite Studio Solo Exhibit by Laura McCormick

Reflected Moments

Ignite Studio is proud to host solo exhibits by artists from Hamilton County and surrounding areas as part of our mission to promote and display art from our talented community. Our final solo exhibition of 2025 is from artist Laura McCormick. Laura is a long-time participant in Ignite Studio’s group exhibits. She was also the first place winner of this year’s Fishers Make-Off with her watercolor and mixed media piece that fit the theme of abstract art.

About the Artist

Artist Laura McCormick

Artist Laura McCormick

Laura McCormick is a contemporary watermedia artist based in Fishers, Indiana that also enjoys working in relief printmaking, bookmaking, and a variety of drawing materials. She focused on fine art drawing and painting for her undergraduate degree at Ball State University and has a Masters in Library Information Science degree from Indiana University Indianapolis. She is a juried artist member of the Hamilton County Artists’ Association, artist member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana, and associate artist member of the Hoosier Art Salon.

A wife and mother of four, she has only recently in the last few years found her way back into creating art but has actively been participating in juried art shows around the state. In 2023, she won the Best Abstract category for the Fishers Arts Council’s Juried Exhibit of Hamilton County Artists, was third place in Hoosier Art Salon’s Good Ole Summertime 2024 exhibit at the New Harmony gallery, earned a merit award at the Minnetrista 35th Annual Juried Exhibit in 2025, and won first place in Ignite Studio’s 2025 Fishers Make-Off. Also, in 2024, she received the Noblesville Creates Award for Emerging Artist of the Year at their annual gala event.

Working primarily in watercolor and gouache, she creates expressive interpretations of light, water, and natural forms, often capturing quiet family moments alongside nature’s details. Her layered technique blends transparent washes with subtle opaque strokes, resulting in work that invites reflection and stillness.

Laura currently serves as the Operations Coordinator for the Hamilton County Artists’ Association through Noblesville Creates. This role has given her the opportunity to support other artists and connect with the wider community, which in turn enriches her own creative process. Just as that work emphasizes collaboration and shared creativity, these paintings are meant to invite conversation and personal connection. “Reflected Moments” is not only a record of what she’s seen, but also an offering to remind others to slow down, notice, and reflect.

About the Art

“Reflected Moments” is a body of work that explores how fleeting experiences can be preserved through the creative process. It refers to both literal reflections on water and to the act of reflecting on memory and experience. My paintings often begin with simple observations: the play of light across water, the dart of koi beneath a surface, or a moment of stillness with family at home.

Some pieces focus on natural elements, others on intimate family scenes, but all share the same attention to quiet beauty and the passage of time. These small encounters become the starting point for works that balance abstraction and representation, evoking the movement, color, and feeling of each scene. My hope is that viewers encounter something familiar within these works: a reminder of their own moments of pause, wonder, or reflection.

See “Reflected Moments” on display at the Fishers branch of HEPL at 5 Municipal Drive, Fishers, IN 46038. This exhibit will be on view from October 4 – November 6, 2025.
