Music Class Today!
By: David Weinstone
If your little one enjoys music class or is even a little shy in groups, this cute and funny story is perfect to read to him or her! Toddlers and preschoolers will likely enjoy the lively and colorful illustrations, which perfectly capture the fun and sometimes-hilarious moments of a typical music class for younger children. The enjoyment that the teacher expresses is reflected in the children as they join in the music making with various musical props and percussion instruments. An important message to caregivers and children is subtly portrayed throughout; that it is perfectly fine to just observe and join in the musical activities when they feel comfortable. The teacher sings these reassuring lyrics, “That’s all right, there’s no rush. Whenever you’re ready, come play with us!” and the reluctant boy finally joins in and then does not even want to leave by the end of music class! Weinstone also wrote the charming song to which the words of the book fit nicely as lyrics (that is available as a download from the publisher). (Picture book ages 3-7)
